Recap

The Ladies 3’s travelled away to Poole today unfortunately with only 9 players. Not phased by that the Island came out with a positive attitude against the league leaders. Two quick goals scored against them in the first 5 minutes however looked to be setting the tone for what could have been a thrashing, inspite of Kaitlyn McFarlane, Beth Bransom and Cathy Somekh’s good work at the back to try and protect Tia Shuttler in goal which they did for the rest of the half, until an unlucky deflection up off Cathy Somekh’s stick sent the ball looping up and over everyone’s heads to drop down in the goal supriseing even the opposition .

The Island rallied in the second half and put together some simple accurate quick passing moves from Vicki Brodowska’s free hits up to Lottie Green and Amber Wilmott who worked hard to frustrate the Poole defence and Kaitlyn Mcfarlane frustrating the Poole attack at the other end of the pitch, the Island refused to give up the game! Poole were caught off guard a few times with runs from Georgie Mack and Amelia Parker but the lack of a full side meant the attacks came to nothing. Poole had soon scored 7 past Wightlink Player of the Match Tia Shuttler who kept the score at 7 when it very easily could have been double figures. Poole were worthy, fair winners and an organised side. It’s worth noting that Poole failed to score from any of their many short corners, an extremely good defensive display by the entire Ladies 3s team.
