A frustrating day at HMS Temeraire. The Island had plenty of possession and chances in the first half but the new look forward line of Steve Woodford, John Kirby and Thomas Young couldn’t find the much deserved opener. The Island were then punished midway through the first half with a Trojans sucker punch of a goal.
In the second half the Island midfield consisting of Lukas Venga, Lewis Heavan-Gandy, Tomas Turjanicová, Alex Breach and Pete Wright pushed higher up the pitch, this unlocked the opposition defence and Steve Woodford finished off a flowing move from left to right. Scott Bashford, Stuart Allen, Sam Challis and Wightlink Man of the Match Joe Arnold battled hard in defence all game to thwart Trojans and only conceded when Trojans were able to overload the defences. Lukas Venga then rifled a hit into the opposition circle which took a deflection, Scott Woodford was the quickest to react and volleyed the ball home. However with tiring legs the Island were undone when Trojans pounced out of the blocks after the restart and snuck in a goal on the far post. The Island continued to pile on the pressure, but as with last week rued the missed chances early on.
The Island play Havant away next Saturday.
