The ladies 3s were away to Trojans in the freezing cold rain today. With only 10 players it was always going to be a hard battle against an organised Trojans side. The first half was mostly Trojans putting lots of pressure on the islands defence testing Tia Shutler, Vicki Brodowska, and Kaitlyn Farlane with their constant attacks. They were rewarded shortly before half time when they broke into the D with numbers. Sophie Bruce in goal saved several shots in a row and captain Cathy Somekh also saved one on the line but then the enviable goal came for Trojans making it 1-0 at half time.
The island rallied in the second half having been lifted by positive attacking play from Megan Turner and Amber Wilmott as well as debut players Hannah Kerley and Georgie making wonderful runs down the wings and putting their crosses in. The island, however, just couldn’t divert one across the goal line. With legs tiring and the rain lashing down the island push up high for an equiser goal with several short corners but Lucy Townend was unable to find a way through. Playing so high up the pitch the island were caught on the break for Trojans second goal which with several passes out maneuvered first Sophie Bruce in goal and then Cathy Somekh on the line. Final score a flattering 2-0 to Trojans. The Wightlink Players of the Match were Sophie Bruce for keeping out so many shots we lost count and Hannah Kerley for a great debut game. A special thanks to Ali for driving the mini bus and for umpiring.
