Match report by Amber Wilmott
The Ladies 3’s were in Southampton for a home match against the Trojans 6’s with a rare full team of 11! The Ladies started off strong with great passes through the middle between Lotty Green and Gracie Boyd. The opposition applied equal pressure with both sides keeping up a high tempo despite the increasingly harsh conditions of rain and wind. Trojans broke through the island’s defence of Kaitlyn McFarlane, Tia Shutler and Vicki Brodowska who did their best to protect the goal. Jarrison Smith saved several shots but one managed to slip in just past her foot making the score 1-0 to the Trojans. The island pressed for an equaliser and the ball was passed up through the middle by Kaitlyn McFarlane to Sophie Bruce who, with a confident run, was able to draw out the opposition player before slipping the ball to Alice Aldridge-Snell who crossed it to Amber Wilmott, who found Carole McFarlane at the top of the D where she fought hard to get a goal without any luck. Georgie Mack made great runs down the wing linking with Lotty Green and Amber Wilmott and Carole McFarlane winning a short corner but we’re unable to convert.
1-0 at half time the Ladies began the second half with dedication and courage. Georgie Mack and Lotty Green fought hard for an equaliser and the Island’s ladies, having had the ball in the opposition’s D for most of the half, were caught on the break and conceded a short corner. Trojans took their advantage and despite the best efforts of the island’s defence of Kaitlyn McFarlane, Vicki Brodowska, Tia Shutler and Gracie Boyd determined to shield Jarrison Smith in the Isle of Wight goal, the Trojans managed to get their second goal. Un-phased by the score, the Ladies 3’s kept up their defence and attack continuing the game with confidence but were unable to score that elusive goal . The final score 2-0 to the Trojans 6’s. A very tough game for the Ladies but was played exceptionally well. The joint Wightlink Players of the Match were Vicki Brodowska and Lotty Green.
