Recap

In the freezing cold wind, the Ladies 3s travelled to Temaraire to play Hamble on a VERY rocky boat, which caused their captain Cathy Somekh to be very sick and couldn’t play. Determined to play well for their fallen teammate the ladies started the game strong. Brilliant runs by Tia Shutler, Georgie Mack and Amelia Parker passing and moving the ball around the oppositions D with several attempts and saves of shots. Until finally Carole McFarlane, in her first ever game, slotted one in the corner on the goal line for the Island’s first goal. With her confidence high she was soon able to turn in her second goal making the score 2-0 to the Island ladies at half time . After an inspiring team talk and hearing that their captain was on the mend, Amelia Parker soon added to the Island score making it 3-0. Tia Shuttler then picked up the ball playing in her new position of midfield and ran through several players before slotting home her first ever goal like a pro. Hamble were able to breakthrough and test the defence of Jarrison Smith, Kaitlyn McFarlane, Beth Bransom and Vicki Brodowska who hassled hard, tracked back and kept up great communication, but even Ella Laird in the Island’s goal couldn’t keep out all of Hamble’s efforts making the score 4-1. With passes from Megan Turner in the middle and great runs by the midfield and wingers, Amber Wimott up front was playing with confidence and was soon able to pick the ball up and smash it into the bottom left corner scoring a fantastic goal, then she was able to do it again shortly after, making the score 6-1 to the Island. Amelia Parker eager to score another goal hit it into the back net but unfortunately at the same time as the final whistle. A well fought game without their captain and coach with and outstanding team performance, 6-1 final score. Wightlink Player of the Match was unanimously awarded to Carole MacFarlane for an amazing first ever game. Thank you to everyone who stayed to support.
