Recap

First home game of the season and the ladies 1’s were looking to build on their win from last week. This weeks opponent’s were Salisbury newcomers to the league and an unknown quantity. The island side got off to a great start and immediately put the visitors under pressure. Despite all the pressure and great play the score remained 0-0. The last 15 mins of the 1st half saw Salisbury take a 2 goal lead against the run of play. Two quick counter attacks and the island side were on the back foot.

A regrouping at halftime the team came out for the 2nd half determined to get something from the game. Salisbury were again put under pressure from the start with the midfield working tirelessly to get the ball forward. There must have been at least half a dozen short corners awarded and several attempts on goal just going the wrong side of the post. Finally one of the short corners found the back of the net. A strike by Jaimie Unsworth from the top of the D took a deflection straight into the top right corner of the goal. Despite the dominance the island side were unable to get an equaliser and the games ended in a 2-1 loss. The result may not have gone out way But it was an incredible team performance and work ethic from all the players . The Wightlink player of the match was Georgia Whittle and today’s Donkey for several reasons was Saffron Hart.
