The Ladies 1s managed to cross the Solent despite the high winds to make it Portsmouth to play Havant 3s. With both teams preferring the warm changing rooms to the pitch conditions it was touch and go if we’d make it out to play!
The windy conditions and drizzle was just about bearable, however apparently it wasn’t raining hard enough and just as we pushed back the 60 min torrential downpour began!
Despite playing some good hockey and several players linking up well the Havant keeper managed to make some great saves and keep the ball from crossing the line so the scores were level at halftime.
It was much the same in the second half with the Havant defence coming under increased pressure from the island side. Several short corners were awarded but unfortunately none of them were converted into goals. Havant managed to get a short corner of their own late in the half and were able to put the ball in the bottom right corner past a stretching Mackenzie Wright and Kirsty Fraser on the post. The final whistle blew before the Island side could find an equaliser however it was another good team performance despite the 1-0 defeat and great to see some players from the Ladies 2s (Lucy Townend & Emmy Breach) making the step up the the 1st team.
