After a rather crazy journey using many different boats (4 cars, 3 boats) and a lovely team breakfast at Frankie and Benny’s it was time to face Hamble.
After a brief few minutes where the team struggled to get into the match the team clawed their way into the game before dominating the first half. Unluckily for the side it was Hamble who scored first though but the team’s heads did not drop and they soon had a short corner awarded. A slip left saw Saffron Phoenix Hart fire a shot towards Wightlink Player of the Match Emily Lord, who’s deflection was sure to hit the backboard. A defender’s foot, however, stopped it going in and the Island were awarded a Penalty Flick which Kirsty Fraser despatched for the Island to equalise. Halftime came and the Island were confident with their chances.
Great communication and fantastic teamwork followed and saw the island side play their best hockey in a long while. However, despite this dominance, the Island were unable to convert their chances before the opposition scored against the run of play to take the lead again. Spirits remained high though and the team hit back with a flurry of attacks, but in the end the Island could not find a deserved equaliser.
