Recap

The Island took too long to go up through the gears and ended up chasing the game. Haslemere started the stronger of the two teams and soon look an early lead. The Island bounced back when Lucas Fuchs beat three defenders and took a reserve hit strike which was deflected past the keeper by Stephen Woodford. This galvanised the Island side and the ball started to flow between Jordan Hambling, Wightlink man of the match Peter Moore and Joe Arnold building to a well timed pass to Lucas Fuchs who squared the ball to Stephen Woodford who slotted the ball home. Haslemere soon increased their intensity and pounced on some loose Island play and then managed to threaded the ball past Scott Bashford who had another busy day in goal. Haslemere came again through a counter attacking move and scored another soon after with Lucas Fuchs suffering a pulled hamstring which took us into half time.

The Island emerged looking to take the game to Haslemere with Tomas Turjanica and Alex Breach linking up well, but the final ball just wasn’t there. Sam Challis pulled off a fantastic goal line save and Stuart Allen played tirelessly in defence cancelling out numerous Haslemere attacks. It was pretty much stalemate with 10 minutes to go, until some nice link up play between father and son duo Bailey Woodford and Stephen Woodford who passed to Peter Wright who beat two players and reversed hit into the bottom corner. Haslemere came back with a penalty corner and sealed the win with a drag flick into the top left which Sam Challis had little chance of stopping.
