Recap

The men’s 1s travelled to Chichester on a wet and windy Saturday with 10 men and a very depleted side due to injury and dodgy wedding planning!

The match started with Chichester having a lot of the ball and the Island defending deep, Chichester had a few shots on goal but could not get by the outstanding Wightlink Man of the Match keeper Scott Bashford. Unfortunately the Island leaked two quick goals but pulled one back when some fantastic play from Chris Stokes and Lukas Venga ended up putting through Joe Arnold who’s shot was stopped by an oppositions back stick. Penalty flick was given and T Young slotted it to the bottom right hand corner of the goal. 2-1 and the oppo were starting to panic. The island grew in confidence and could of scored more through great play from the youngsters Tomaz Turjanicová, Peter Wright and Joe Arnold. Half time 2-1.

The second half started with Chichester having more of the ball and attacking in waves but the back three Steve McKnight, Aaron Baker and 60 year old Peter McKnight played their socks off stopping and breaking down these waves. Young Joe Arnold lost him self for a minute and decided to have a mad swing and a chop of an opposition player’s stick and was yellow carded, although in the grand scheme of things it was probably a bit harsh. Chichester got their 3rd and shortly afterwards Chris Stokes injured his back. With ten minutes to go the island were really tiring and Chichester managed to score three late goals. The damage could have been more with keeper Scott Bashford saving a penalty flick to cement his Wightlink Man of the Match performance, but even the 1-6 scoreline flattered Chichester as all ten Island players were brilliant and could not have given any more.
