Recap
The Island showed flashes of brilliance in front of goal but not enough to prevent Alton’s five goals. Having soaked up a lot of early pressure, the Island conceded a sloppy goal when they failed to clear their lines. The Island pulled one back through Tom Turney who deftly took the ball out of the air and then rounded the defence to slot the ball home. The Island then had a spell of gifting the ball to the opposition, allowing them to score three goals in quick succession.
The Island heads never dropped though and they battled back in the second half, scoring through the dogged determination of Stephen Woodford, who had returned to the pitch after being sent off for not being light enough on his feet and breaking down play. The Island pushed for another but this left them vulnerable to counter attacks which Alton took advantage of scoring their final goal.
